Gandalf’s riding career began in 1992 on an ‘82 Kawasaki KZ650 named Gretchen. Unfortunately for Gandalf, this relationship began in Phoenix, AZ and consisted of finding shady places to park Gretchen during the day and riding at night. Gandalf’s first overland journey was a trip from Phoenix to Berkeley with all his worldly belongings strapped to Gretchen who valiantly carried Gandalf across the deserts of AZ and southern CA, through the wasteland of the greater LA basin and on to the bosom of northern CA where she promptly dropped a cylinder 70 miles from Gandalf’s destination in the middle of an atmospheric river event. Gandalf and Gretchen enjoyed the greater Bay Area for a while before Gandalf left in a 4-wheeled carriage for the benighted sandbar called Florida and Gretchen disappeared into the tall grass of the land called Scully, never to be seen again.
Gandalf traveled on 4 wheels like other mortals until 1995 when he became acquainted with a Honda CB350 in Seattle which remained nameless. The highlight of this relationship was a pair of insulated, leather gauntlet gloves which proved useful through the WA winters and which now reside in the Circus archives in a secret location.
Gandalf's second moto life began during The Great Plague of Separation. While longing to be free of the restrictions and confines of viral lockdown, a plan formed to seek vistas of the Arctic Ocean in a small village named Tuktoyaktuk on the northern coast of Canada - on two wheels, of course. While discussing his plans with his brothers via the Zoom, Gandalf was hypnotized and agreed to a ride instead through the Oregon wilderness. The amazing Vader was procured for this adventure and Gandalf set about kitting out the 2002 Suzuki DL1000. Vader was a very capable and fast twisty road and highway traveler, but Vader was not to make the trip north. Perhaps due to their remorse for having tricked Gandalf into the OR ride, the brothers of Gandalf concluded a different Moto was required to match Gandalf's elevated station and advanced age. And thus the Surprise of the Century (or just 2021) was formed. During a visit to the sunny and tranquil paradise that is Northern California, Gandalf led his brothers on a ride through the twisty East Bay hills headed to San Jose. This destination would ostensibly allow Don Juanson to pick up some moto parts from another rider. Unbeknownst to Gandalf, trickery was afoot. Gandalf's brothers surprised him with the gift of Super Wampa. The generosity and gratitude in that moment were immeasurable and led to the Circus being born on the sandy, desolate track that became known as the Bootleg Route.
Goose purchased his first motorcycle at the age of 19. A palatinate purple 1985 Honda CB650. The bug of motorized two wheeled transport sank its teeth in deep. Appreciation and affection for all aspects of motorcycles only deepened over the years. Whether extracting a seized woodruff key from a crankshaft, or riding across wild landscapes, motorcycles provide continuous opportunities to discover yourself and the wider world.Goose lives in Oregon. Goose loves motorcycles, beer, and maps.
Known for taking 600 pounds of bike, Falcor, aka The Love Boat, and 200 pounds of his shop on the Bootleg route, DJ goes by many names and titles. In camp he is often found in his underwear. No one knows his real name. But if you need a 3/32 inch drill bit, a left-handed smoke deflector, or just a cold beer he probably has it.
Short of ice on the road, and sometimes even then, Hayduke will ride. It is said he was born wearing his boots. His first bike came from his grandmother when she was getting a bigger one, and she totally ripped him off on the price. In the past he has put new valves ahead of paying rent. Mostly by accident there are too many bikes in his garage. He hates long walks of any kind unless it is to put up a hammock and read a book. He resides in Corvallis Oregon with the other love of his life.
